Cheers!
When you have your own award-winning brewery right next door then your odds of serving a decent pint are always going to be increased. The Isle of Purbeck Brewery is on the same plot as the Bankes Arms Studland and both are run by the same family. The pub not only serves the brewery’s five core beers as standard but also showcases its seasonal summer ales and winter porters as well as it’s very own cider.
There’s plenty of sitting room in the pub and if the weather allows we also have a large pub garden directly opposite the pub overlooking the sea. As you can imagine it can get quite busy in the summer and we often setup a temporary bar in the garden to alleviate the queues. As well as the full range of alcoholic beverages the pub also has soft drinks, juices, children’s drinks and also serves a decent cup of tea or machine filtered coffee. So whether you’re enjoying an ice cold lager or a refreshing spritzer in the garden in summer or a sturdy pint of porter or a warming glass of red wine in front of the fire in winter, you can be sure that the Bankes Arms has a drink for you.
Beer
The Bankes Arms offers the full range of the Isle of Purbeck brewery’s core beers – Best Bitter, Studland Bay Wrecked, Solar Power, Fossil Fuel and Purbeck IPA – alongside four guest draught ales usually sourced from Dorset and the West Country. The award winning brewery distributes nationally for the retail, wholesale and hospitality trades and the pub also has special gift packs available to the public.
Cider
The Bankes Arms is ideally placed to source some super ciders from Dorset, Somerset and Hampshire and usually has around ten different ciders on tap. Well known names such as Hecks and Westons are offered alongside smaller artisan brewers like New Forest Cider and Dorset’s Marshwood Vale and Dorset Nectar. The Isle of Purbeck Brewery right next door even brews its own cider, Purbeck Pommes, so don’t forget to have a sample of this to complete your set! Cider is traditionally a summery drink but we often have a steaming vat of mulled cider available in the winter months.
Wine
The Bankes Arms has a full and diverse selection of wines for any occasion and any budget. Offering a tantalising range of both Old and New World wines, our standard reds and whites offer a perfect accompaniment to meat, chicken, fish, spicy or vegetarian dishes, either by the glass or bottle. Treat yourself to a more expensive glass of red to enjoy with our cheese platter or push the boat out on special occasions with a fizzy prosecco or champagne. In the winter we’ll have a warming glass of mulled wine to keep the cold at bay.
Spirits
Whether in cocktails, with mixers, over ice or straight up, we offer the usual range of spirits as well as some special surprises. Dorset is well represented, especially in the gin department with Conker Spirit and Pothecary from Bournemouth and Lilliput Gin distilled in nearby Poole. In summer there’s nothing quite like a refreshing Mojito, a sparkling bellini or a jug of Pimms to share with friends; in winter it’s time to hunker round the roaring fire with a warming tot of whiskey, brandy or rum.
